About the event
This is a very special evening of learning, creating, and gifting back. The Pysanka is an age old tradition of the agrarian people living in Ukrain, dependent on the sun, these offerings were made for survival, through storytelling and symbolism these humble eggs became works of art whose craft has carried through centuries of conversion from pagan to Christianity to a family tradition.
Created with batik wax, and multiple layers of secret recipe dyes these eggs have lasted generations. With the efforts of an amazing artist, and visionary Sofika Zielyk, over 800 eggs from people all over the world have sent their sweet egg tributes in to the ongoing installation, with notes of promise, hope, encouragement and support for those in the Ukraine.
We will be participating! A workshop and crafting of these eggs will take place and then our works of heart will be sent to the NY installation , eventually our eggs will be returned to the homeland where this tradition began and used to help restore.
